Serena Buschi is an interdisciplinary mixed-media fiber artist and seasoned sound practitioner, whose profound work is reshaping the landscape of contemporary art. Residing and creating in Bedford, New York, Serena’s artistic journey is a vibrant exploration of interconnectivity, consciousness, and the pervasive currents of the unconscious.
With a unique heritage blending Southeast Asian Indian and Italian roots, Serena’s art is a reflection of her intricate understanding of self and society. Her masterful use of pinning and draping materials not only showcases her technical prowess but also echoes the fluid and interconnected nature of our times.
I choose fiber to reference a way of knowing, a comfort connected to my familiarity with cloth and the lasting impression cloth has had in my life. Sari silk speaks to the array of unashamed vibrancy of the saris worn by the women in my life and the epigenetic weight this fiber carries. My work is rooted in identity and includes four overarching frameworks: weight, waveform, sound, and grid. Using these enables me to reflect on the properties of the physical world, the fields of energy within and around us, our connections to each other and nature, and how we affect one another.
Serena’s academic credentials are as impressive as her artistic achievements. She holds an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MA from Teachers College, Columbia University. For the past 24 years, she has been inspiring young minds as an Art Educator, teaching the International Baccalaureate Visual Arts program in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Her solo exhibitions, including the prestigious Flatiron Prow Art Space in Manhattan, have captivated audiences. Additionally, her work gained cinematic recognition when it was featured in the 2016 motion picture “Anesthesia.” As a curator at Macy Gallery, Teachers College, Columbia University, Serena has demonstrated her keen eye for impactful and resonant art.
Serena Buschi’s work is housed in numerous private collections, a testament to her compelling and evocative creations. Her art invites viewers to explore the profound connections between physical, philosophical, and spiritual systems, offering a much-needed sense of unity in our fragmented world.
