I discovered a gem today ladies and gents! Lady DJ, Smiles Davis, knows her music and how to join a diverse range of genres to form one soulful final product. A former professional dancer/company member with the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, she became such a sought after talent that she served as a movement coach for multiplatinum artist Lauryn Hill and a back up dancer for both Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot. Unfortunately due to an injury, her career as a dancer was put on hold. During her rehabilitation Miss Davis discovered her love for turntables. As an employee of Amoeba Music in LA, she takes full advantage of her surroundings, studying and jamming out to every musical genre possible. Always having a strong connection to music, spinning offered the opportunity to control the groove instead of riding and interpreting it, giving her a new avenue for expression. She recently guest dj-ed here in Vegas at The Cosmopolitan, and I can’t forgive myself for missing her set. Hopefully she’ll be back soon!
