“JEWELRY HAS THE POWER TO TRANSFORM A MOMENT, A MOOD, A LIFE. “ |
I was first introduced to the world of Lyon Fine Jewelry when watching an episode from the new season of The Real L Word. I for one had never been an avid watcher of the show, that is until Ms. Lauren Bedford Russell made her debut. She represented successful female entrepreneurs from all walks of life, with a goal to evoke a deep sense of identity and intrinsic desire through the use of striking and inventive design. Lauren uses the most sophisticated metals and gemstones in her wearable art, all of which is American-made and produced in both LA and NYC.
This lovely lady was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions for me, and I can’t thank her enough! Get to know the girl who stands up for equality while making pink hair trendy.
Be sure to check out Lyon Jewelry and support this awesome gal. Enjoy!
What drew you to the world of jewelry?
My father, he has always been obsessed and drew me in from a very young age.
What inspires your designs and creative process?
I get inspiration from architecture, clothing and fashion, my mood and literally what I feel is needed in the marketplace.
If your favorite design could talk, what would it say?
It would take a long drag of a cigarette and offer you a shot of whiskey.
What is your most treasured piece of jewelry (that you didn’t create)?
An emerald ring my father gave me.
What was the biggest challenge starting your own line?
The biggest challenge was doing all of the business side by myself.
Any new or upcoming events for the line?
Just trying to get it all a little more affordable, and bringing some more lower priced items into the mix.
What advice can you give to budding designers?
Follow your gut and let your creativity flow. Do not be held down by conventional walls. Be yourself, in everything you design.
Okay just for fun, you have been selected to go on all expense paid drinking binge for three days with one historical figure, an artist, and one free choice. Who are your drinking buddies? ;)
THIS is tough. Eleanor Roosevelt, Dalai Llamma, Greta Garbo. (ok I cheated)
What does being a Raw Femme mean to you?
I think it means being femme on the outside and a tough strong kick ass woman on the inside.
