“Kisskadee pulls together progressive-rock (the Canterbury school to be precise), astronomy, chamber-pop, computer sound manipulation and faith in resurrection” – The New York Times
Kisskadee’s debut LP is out everywhere via Anxiety Blanket Records. On its release date, 100% of all digital sales as well as 10$ from every vinyl purchase were donated to the Yellowhammer Fund. The Yellowhammer Fund is a 501(c)3 abortion fund and reproductive justice organization serving Alabama, Mississippi, and the Deep South.
Kisskadee is the maximalist project of multi-instrumentalist Kasie Shahbaz. Her orchestral arrangements and strange time signatures are a breaking away from traditional songwriting limitations, while also maintaining a lyrical, folk like sensibility.
From start to finish, the album exudes the feeling of floating through space in a hypnotic trance. Each track builds into a carefully designed safe space with elements of psychedelia experimental rock.
Black Hole Era uses the birth and death of the universe as a chronological allegory for childhood through adulthood. The record tracks our expanding circle of relationships as we age; first with mother, then with siblings, then with lovers. However, like the cosmos, as this circle expands, it is also dying. The record stands witness to the loss of childlike safety and the lonely longing of adulthood.
