In 2005, designer Shana Tabor was presented with the opportunity to open the first retail location of In God We Trust in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, New York. In 2007, she expanded to include a location in Soho and in 2008 added a location on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. In 2009 Tabor opened up a shop and studio space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and in July 2011 she expanded the In God We Trust mini-empire to include the latest location on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.

Shana's boutique embodies vintage and traditional New England appeal. You can find everything from timeless down shirts to - my favorite - customized jewelry. Her collection of brass hearts come equip with witty sayings such as - "Really F***in Cute" and "One Sick Bitch." And if those personalizations don't do the trick, Shana and her team offer custom engraving.

Boomchaclakclak! Absolutely in love with Zee Avi and her eclectic sound. In the two years since her self-titled debut was joint-released on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records and Ian Montone’s Monotone Label, Avi’s very free spirit has wandered from major music festivals (SXSW, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo) to huge tours (Lilith Fair) back to her homeland of Sarawak, Borneo Island, where she recently picked up an International Youth Icon Award. For a little perspective, just four years ago, Avi was a former art student in Kuala Lumpur who posted a song on YouTube to catch up with a friend and was quite surprised to find herself the toast of the Internet when thousands of strangers discovered her effortlessly stunning voice. Literal overnight success can easily poison young minds, but Avi is no ordinary mind — while critics were comparing her chilled-out, jazzy, ukulele-based songs to Billie Holiday and Cat Power she was continuing to make visual art and remaining her buoyant, whimsical self. “I’m 25 going on 12 and a half on a good day,” she laughs, flipping through a notebook filled with colorful drawings and lengthy notes. While designing web sites for other fashion designers, she finally decided to stop searching and came up with the idea to make her own. Nicknamed Staceypants by her friends, she was often found rollerblading through the city in that first pair of bold striped bell bottoms that the collection instantly became famous for.
The line gradually grew to become a full lifestyle collection offering everything from party dresses and coats to embellished t-shirts and sweaters, to the pants with the perfect fit that started it all. Stacey is also expanding into accessories with jewelry and scarves and growing the alice + olivia kids line each season. Stacey incorporates her love of culture, music, art and vintage fashion into each collection, and gives something fresh and edgy to the alice + olivia girl every season. In July 2010, Ryerson University graduate Caitlin Cronenberg, self-published her first book of photography, POSER, a collection of nude portraits. The book was released to critical acclaim and has been selling consistently in major and independent book stores across the country.

"The subjects vary greatly in age, race, body type and situation. The book contains an index explaining the connection between each subject and the photographer. "POSER began as an assignment for a studio lighting workshop I took after I graduated from fashion school. I wanted to try shooting nudes, and as I took each photo I really began to see interesting expressions and emotions coming from my subjects. I found this so fascinating that I had to keep going. It is a simple concept, but the subjects add a level of complexity. Each one tells a very personal story." - Toro Magazine

Okay maybe the last part was a stretch, but I just wanted my excuse to sound a little more enticing ;) Allow me to introduce artist and musician Colleen Kinsella. "Primarily a printmaker, I use the process of print and multiples to examine narratives of conflict, compromise and isolation. The repetition of printing encourages the brain to zone out. The act of making is what drives the flow of work. Multiplicity allows a letting go of preciousness and singular vision. Each print is a variation of the last. All potentiality and possibility can exist at once: alternate universes in a sci-fi surreality." I'm really loving the animation by talented artist Sohee Jeon for Drew Smith's most recent music video "Love Teeth". Sohee is an illustrator/animator living and working out of Korea. She attended Vancouver Film School for classical animation in 2009 and was an animator for the Walt Disney TV show "Special Agent Oso" in 2010. As animator and director of the video, Sohee stayed true to the dynamic of the songs story about love and loss. Makes for a serene experience with both crafts complimenting one another perfectly. “As the songwriter, it was quite the experience waiting to see how her visualization of the song would materialize. Thanks to auspicious circumstances, I've become a passionate fan of the late and great Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy! After watching all three installments of the Swedish films and currently reading Stieg's original piece "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", I'm completely infatuated with the history, storyline, and all around bad ass appeal of Lisbeth Salander. Their story is a rather inspiring one, both leaving their 9-5 behind and taking the recession head on! After lots of hard work, determination, and creative thinking, these ladies have accomplished one of the "coolest" business ventures ever. Total Recall Vintage was founded in the Spring of 2010 by Christine Bourie and Patrick DeCarlo. Miami’s blend of Lamborghinis, Brutalist architecture, misplaced neons, and Day Glo Speedos inform their look. Total Recall adjusts the tracking back to the VHS-styles of the 1980’s and early 90’s. Christine has a fondness for sequins, fringe, anything metallic, and very high heels. Sometimes she does hair. Patrick DeCarlo straddles the non-profit and fashion worlds by working in youth prevention for a local domestic violence agency and snapping pictures for Total Recall Vintage. Dirty Bandits is a small, Brooklyn-based design firm specializing in typography, lettering and illustration run by Annica Lydenberg. Work done by Dirty Bandits is fueled by Annica’s deep obsession with type. The company started many years ago on the other side of the globe as a t-shirt label and then transformed into a design shop back in New York. Oscar Qualified Live Action Short | African Chelsea

I was given the honor by actress Corinne Becker, to review a live short film starring herself and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland. African Chelsea is a powerful examination of a young woman struggling to find her place in Los Angeles. The films introduction offers viewers a close-up of a beautiful woman, with piercing eyes and a short hot pink wig used to cover not only her long brown locks, but ultimately her purpose behind the prop. As a viewer, I almost immediately felt a sense of empathy for the character. I demanded to know why so much pain was bestowed upon this woman, to drive her to such grim and hopeless scenarios. A question soon to be answered by the character's Mother and her erratic behavior. No full insight of the background of the two character's relationship is presented, however despite the pervasive gloom holds a moment of understanding between the Mother and Daughter. A moment to quickly be disturbed by a tragic ending one would wish could have been prevented. The acting in this short is one to acknowledge and applaud. Within a six minute time frame, the talented actors leave you wanting more from their heart-felt performances. The live action short is eligible for the Academy Awards, an honor it so rightfully deserves. Short to say the least, this film is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Hey all, allow me to introduce my new favorite crooner Amber Lee of Amber and Little Criminals. Amber is a Brooklyn based indie/folk artist who proudly writes life songs, not love songs. Originating from Ontario, Amber has always felt like an artist at heart. She majored in film at Concordia, followed by studying business at both the Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada and The Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands. It wasn't until the summer after her 19th birthday that she began playing the guitar and penning songs to accompany. She was hooked and quickly thereafter she worked her way out of the living rooms of friends and onto the stage of various venues across Canada and new york city, as she eventually accepted her calling. Her captivating voice is one you'll immediately love and be drawn to. Her lyrics flow beautifully with each arrangement, backed by breath-taking instrumentals from bandmates Stefanie Bassett (Piano), Dan Wintersteen (Drums & Percussion), Larry Heinemann (Electric bass) and Alex Nguyen (Trumpet and Flugelhorn). I'm in love with LOV, the film directed by Stephanie Di Gusto for the new autumn-winter 2011-2012 Vanessa Bruno collection. The video short stars the beautiful Kate Bosworth (you gotta love those eyes). "Her mysteriousness, her strength. Also another side to femininity, a stirring truthfulness which is renewed with every look, every movement accompanied by a wisp of assertiveness and purity. A new gracefulness progressing to a confident allure, conquering, a battling frailty." Everything about this video is brilliant, I've been left in complete awe. Swoon is a street artist originally from Daytona Beach, Florida. She moved to New York City at age nineteen, and specializes in life-size wheatpaste prints and paper cutouts of figures. Swoon aka Caledonia Dance Curry, studied painting at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and started doing street art around 1999. Swoon's artwork depicts realistically rendered people, often her friends and family, on the streets in various places around the world. Usually, pieces are pasted on uninhabited locations such as abandoned buildings, bridges, fire escapes, water towers and street signs. Her work is inspired by both art historical and folk sources, ranging from German Expressionist wood block prints to Indonesian shadow puppets. Amazing lady!

So ladies, it's been a few months since I last offered you gals some lovely eye-candy hehe. I've wanted to feature my buddy Skeet Skeet in our "Men We Love" series for quite some time now, and with so many of his endeavors blowing up day after day, there's no better time than now! I met Skeet Skeet aka Trevor Mcfedries back in 2007 after seeing a Myspace ad (yes myspace) he posted in search of a personal assistant. I immediately jumped on the opportunity and was fortunate enough to meet with him shortly after for an interview. Let me tell you, I've been on several interviews in my short professional career, but this was one that particularly stood out. Of course I tried to dress to impress, rawkin' skull printed high heels ready to sit and chat about my work experience and future goals. To my surprise, an adorable boy with a crazy fro and tattoos, wearing a white v-neck and basketball shorts opens the door. He greeted me with a Yo Rawky, lets walk to Pinkberry and chat there lol. I was like wow this is awesome, not only did Trev make me feel extremely comfortable, but he illustrated his down-to-earth, laid-back vibe right off the bat. Lucky for me the day was filled with tons of fun adventures, and I was the lucky applicant to take on the role of his P.A. My experience working with him was one I'll never forget, he taught me a lot and proved that not everyone lets Hollywood go to their head.

La born, Iowa raised, Trev moved back to LA where he quickly began taking over the nightlife scene. Starting off making mixtapes for friends, and throwing DIY parties with his buddies, Trev became one of the first DJ's in LA to introduce electronic favs like Daft Punk and Open Format mixing. I had never heard someone mix genres so uniquely and make it sound so damn good! His talent speaks high volumes with several tours under his belt, including Vans Warped Tour where he was offered the gig of being the first DJ ever to play on an all punk band tour, and currently Katy Perry's California Dreams Tour. He's a sought after producer, whose remixed for the likes of Ke$ha, Foster The People, and Mike Posner. He's gearing up to release his debut album, which will feature tons of amazing artists and friends who are huge inspirations to him. Trevor's likability is infectious, along with being creative and multi-talented it's safe to say this amazing guy has lots more success to look forward to! Love love love him! Beautiful photos of Frances Bean Cobain, the 18 year old daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, have been surfacing all over the web for the past few weeks now. The portraits were shot by the amazing designer turned photographer Hedi Slimane, famously known for his rock musician photography series, and fashion editorial cv. Frances is an artist in her own right, first displaying her work in July 2010 at Los Angeles' La Luz De Jesus Gallery. The somewhat dark drawings depicted characters like punk rock singer GG Allin and cult leader Jim Jones. I suppose you can say this has been a week of spoiling you with special treats! To continue my spoiling streak, I'm suuuper excited to share my interview with local photographer Asha Maura! I met Asha through our mutual friends, who hired her to take photos at their wedding a couple months back. While browsing through their photo album, my jaw fell to the ground, basically laying immobile due to the breath-taking shots Asha managed to capture throughout their special day. At that moment, I knew there was no way I was going to allow the opportunity of interviewing Asha get away from me. At the young age of 18, this talented young lady has built a portfolio and resume as strong as her older professional peers. Working as a professional photographer at Digs, a studio of photography, Asha strives to be the best wedding photographer of her generation, a craft she hopes to exercise all over the world. Her talent and work ethic speak for itself, and promotes great inspiration for female artists of all ages. Thank you so much Asha for allowing me to pick that amazing brain of yours. You're the coolest Baby Femme around!

1. When did you first become interested in photography?
Oh Man, that's a great question. I have been interested in photography since I was I think 13? My dad bought me a little kodak point and shoot and it was history from there. I was the self timer queen. I LOVED taking self portraits. When I turned 15 I bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D40. I loved that thing, It never left my side, thats when I started getting creative with my photos, at 16 I got an internship with Digs studio and thats when it all really began for me, now I'm 18 and a professional photographer, sometimes when I think about it I'm even in shock that I am doing what I've loved for so long, at such a young age.
2. Do you recall the first photograph that made an impression on you?
I've always been surrounded by art. All different types of art. I'm so grateful for my parents and how much they have introduced me to since I was a baby. My mom always had a camera on her, and she got that habit from my grandfather. A long line of photographers you might say. Anyway, my mom used to show me slides of photos my grandfather took in the 70's and 80's and I remember being sooo in love with everyone of them. So I can't remember the first photo that made an impression but I remember the first photographer. My Abuelito!

3. Do you feel that your identity changes when you lift the camera to your eye? Do you act differently?
Oh Absolutely! I am extremely bubbly behind the camera but at the same time very concentrated and for some reason I become a total clutz when I'm photographing, I trip over EVERYTHING! I get excited about a shoot weeks in advance, and I'm always thinking about what shots I want to get, but when I start shooting I lose myself. A lot of the time I don't even get the shot I was thinking about for weeks because I get so excited in the moment I forget! I guess you can say I become a bitttt of a spaz when I pick up the camera…but in a good way. haha
4. Have other photographers influenced your photographic style?
Definitely, when I started working for Digs I had the opportunity to learn from some really amazing photographers. I think everyone here at digs has definitely influenced my photography and what I look for in a photo. But I am ALWAYS looking at other photographers all over the world for inspiration. I am still so new at this, my photos are no where near where I'd like them to be. I think I'm just starting to develop my own style and I'm more excited then ever about photography!
5. After reviewing your work on Digs' blog and your personal blog, I noticed you have taken some of the most beautiful portraits I've ever seen! How do you go about making your subject feel comfortable and beautiful in front of the camera?
Oh gosh! Thank you so much, you're making me blush a bit! I just try to be myself. Getting photos taken is awkward, even for me. No one really likes to do it at first. We say it's like a first date, awkward for the first 15 minutes. Since I know this, I just like to have fun, make dumb jokes and just have a good time like I would if I were out with my friends. Most of the time I meet with my clients before their shoot. Just so we can get to know each other a little bit. A shoot should be fun, so I do whatever I can to make sure it is.

6. Where do you see your craft taking you in the future?
Everywhere!! I plan on being the best wedding photographer of my generation! I want to travel the world taking photos. That for me would be a dream come true for me. But I plan on opening my own studio by 22. That's my goal. Not sure where yet, have to do some more traveling before I decide. I'm extremely excited about my future though, I don't imagine my life being anything close to ordinary.
7. Thank you again for your time, you're a huge inspiration for aspiring photographers! What is your definition of a Raw Femme?
I think Raw Femme is about doing something great and beautiful, doing what you love and still being true to who you are. It's about women doing something that is awesome that people all over can be inspired by. Standing out and taking risks, having a little bit of rebel in you that will reflect in your work, no matter what It is. I love Raw Femme, I'm a huge fan of what you're doing and couldn't be happier that you asked me to do this interview, so Thank you! You're awesome, best of luck to you!

My absolute favorite days are when they are spent with my Grammy! She is never afraid to go on adventures and experience new things. Our last outing led us to downtown Las Vegas, where we wandered into the coolest coffee house in town, The Beat Coffeehouse and Records on Fremont. After chatting it up with super cool barista, Heather, we decided to browse around the complex and check out all of the different art galleries. The building is two stories, with multiple rooms where artists or small business owners can rent out, and display their work or services. One vendor in particular, Sophie Duncan, made a lasting impression on me! Sophie owns an awesome company called Pits 'N' Wieners, consisting of cute silk-screened tee's modeled after her beloved and adorable pitbull Daisy, and wiener pup Charlotte. Daisy of course represented as the Angel of the two with a cute halo above her head, and Charlotte sinfully rawkin' devil horns. Something you'd expect to be have a more opposite appeal haha. Not only does Sophie sell tees, but also personally designed jewelry, all hand-made, sterling silver, with beautifully crafted fine silver pendants. Sugarhigh + Lovestoned is a collaboration of two friends who met in Maui, while separately working on clothing lines. Soon after meeting Tami Snodgrass and Chloe Chippendale realized they both shared the same vision of creating a bad-ass, care-free, and stylish collection. After tons of hard-work, support from their peers, and endless creativity, SH+LS was born! 1. First off, thank you so much for taking the time to answer a few questions! I have to admit I was super excited when you agreed to do so! I'm absolutely in love with SH+LS, how did it come about? AW, THANKS!!!! IT CAME ABOUT WHEN ME & CHLOE, TWO STRUGGLING/BROKE ASS DESIGNERS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE MORE AFFORDABLE TO TEAM UP - AND NOW THAT WE'RE A TEAM, WE HAVE JUST BEEN BUILDING OFF EACH OTHERS CREATIVITY. IT'S BEEN AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

2. It's awesome that you're able to share this creative endeavor with your partner and friend Chloe Chippendale. Could you describe the roles that you play in the company? WELL, WE BOTH DESIGN. I AM MORE OF THE ILLUSTRATIVE ONE, AND CHLOE IS MORE ABOUT THE FIT CUT AND FEEL. I'VE BEEN WORKING UNDER SWIMWEAR DESIGNERS FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS, AND CHLOE HAS BEEN AN ASSISTANT BUYER FOR SOME SICK BOUTIQUES IN MAUI, HAWAII FOR THE PAST 5. TOGETHER, WE PRETTY MUCH COVER ALL THE BASES.

3. "Badass clothing for groupies, surfers, hippies, hitchhikers, rebels, skaters, lovers, stoners + other unusual suspects." I love your down to earth aesthetic. What is it about these walks of life that inspires you? UM, PROBABLY BECAUSE WE ARE THESE WALKS OF LIFE, AS ARE THOSE WHO SURROUND US. LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE SPENT THE PAST 11 YEARS SURFING, AND WORKING ENOUGH TO SUPPORT MY LIFESTYLE - I SPEND A LOT OF TIME JUST LIVING IN THE MOMENT. MAUI IS FULL OF TRAVELERS, AND PAIA - WHERE I WORK AND PLAY, HAS A WIDE SPECTRUM OF TRAVELERS IN OUR GENERATION. YOU COULD LITERALLY WALK OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE, DOWN TO THE HWY, STICK YOUR THUMB OUT - AND LET THE DAY TAKE YOU.

4. I would have given anything to experience Woodstock, something I'm sure we can both agree has greatly influenced our generations' fashion trends. Pretend you're there, what three artists are you most excited to see live? CROSBY STILLS NASH & YOUNG, JIMI HENDRIX, AND JOE COCKER!

5. If your favorite Sugarhigh +Lovestoned design could talk, what would it tell us? ROLLIN' STONER tee....it's about kickin back in the grass with your lover on a hot summer's day, making-out + watching clouds turn into unicorns. it's about ditching your high school prom and hot-boxing your parent's car. it's about sharing a spliff with 100 strangers in the crowd at a rock concert. it's about being a dedicated fan + always making it to the front row. it's about listening to your mom + dad's old record collection and realizing that they were once just like you. it's about opening your mind to the infinite possibilities of the universe and thinking about how crazy it is to be here. it's about peace, love + experiencing the beauty in every moment. and above all, it's about rock + roll.

Elle Moss is a fine art photographer from Saline, Michigan. Specializing in still life photography, Elle is inspired by all things vintage, nature, colors, and dream sequences. Many of Elle's photographs have been featured in various publications including Marie Claire Italia. Monica is a loving Mommy of two daughters, and wife of 22 years to her husband/best friend. "They inspire me to live a brave life and fulfill my dreams..." Originally from Sydney but but currently residing in Melbourne, Australia, Pom Pom has been gigging around Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane for over two years! A master of multiple instruments, synth and vox, with a bad girl vocal range to boot, Pom Pom is well on her way to being crowned the Queen of the Underground Scene. Her track 'Tuesday' has recently been picked up for high rotation on traxx Radio. During a Pom Pom set you're bound to experience everything from industrial dance to dubstep, grundgy pop to new wave to Industro pop. Every show is a high energy, sweaty dance-a-thon style with an 'all or don't bother' attitude to performance. "Audience members at a pom pom gig are advised to wear their best 'don't F with me when I'm on the dance floor' shoes and to thrash out big with myself and band mate Dash Dot." Love her! Allow me to introduce the incredibly talented Rebecca Ladds! First year student at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada, majoring in printmaking and minoring in jewelery making. Her drawings are so well detailed and original, representing so many inspirations around her. Her use of nibs make for excellent outline and hatching design. Her choice of paper canvas definitely adds such an unique & antique like touch. This young lady surely has one amazing career to look forward to! Hey All! I came across this article in Full Frontal Fashion, and I was curious of how my readers view this issue. A new study conducted by the Journal of Applied Psychology, revealed that "very thin" women earn approximately $22,000 more than "average weight counterparts." As a woman proud of her curves, this seems rather unsettling. I recall an article by the name of "One Size Fits All", shot by Terry Richardson for V Magazine. This was a clever projection in showcasing two beautiful women with two very different body shapes. What do you think girls and guys, should appearance determine the success of a woman's career? :)
